| Each year the staff and board of Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation use funding from grants and allocations to complete projects in our parks. While some projects contribute to the safety of our parks, others help us meet the needs of the growing population of Berkeley County. Some of the projects are featured below. | |
The Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center expansion project is almost complete. Thanks to a grant from the Quad Graphics Windhover Foundation, basketball games are now being held in the new Quad Graphics Gymnasium.
Thanks to a combined effort from the Berkeley County Commission and the City of Martinsburg, the second wing of the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center expansion opened in December 2007. The state-of-the art facility hosts a variety of gymnastics and dance classes for ages 18 months through adults.
This summer the barn received a new silo top, entry way, stone work and a fresh coat of paint on the silo. After some landscaping around the exterior, the barn project will be complete. This picture was taken in July 2007.
The entrance of the barn at Poor House Farm Park, July 2007.
The stonework around the bleacher area, retaining wall and Veterans' Memorial were completed last summer.
A new water fountain (complete with a handicapped fountain and a ground level fountain for dogs) and a new bench were installed in the old monument area of War Memorial Park.
The Poor House Farm Equestrian Group has been working on their sub-leased property at Poor House Farm Park. The area was fenced in the spring and the concession/grand stand building was completed this summer. The group hopes to hold an opening ceremony in the Fall of 2007.
Thanks to the Martinsburg City Block Grant, Leeland Playground received a facelift this summer. Two play areas and a resurfaced basketball court were completed by July 2007.
